Ben Rice - Lead Guitar
In his Sophmoreyear at the University of Oregon, Ben is a Jazz studies Major. He formed the band in the 7th grade when his older brother's band broke up. Today, he writes most of the group’s material and has produced three CDs of original music with the band. Ben has a profound and uncommon love for the blues not normally seen among his age group. He listens to players such as Muddy Waters and B.B. King but is also influenced by modern artists such as John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Ben Rice is a dedicated musician who gives guitar lessons two give others a chance to enjoy music as he does. He sees the potential in younger and inexperienced players. In 2005 and 2007 the Portland Cascade Blues Association nominated Ben for "Best Male Vocalist" and "Best Electric Guitar." With his incredible talent and killer smile, Ben is emerging as a capable guitarist and leader.
Mac Potts - Keys, Saxophone, Drums, Bass
16 years old Mac Potts is the youngest member in the Youth of Blues. A student of DK Stewart and Janice Scroggins, he play's just about any instrument that is put in front of him. Mac has been with the Youth of Blues since early 2005 and is a thrilling performing. Blind since birth and perfect pitch has enhanced and enabled Mac to memorize hundreds of songs on the keyboard from Black Sabbath to Elton John. Mac often plays solo and has his own Jazz CD where he played drums ,Bass,keys,and sax.
Alex plays Bass and Guitar. He was asked to join the band for a show, just a week before the Youth of Blues went to the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival in 2005. The first day he auditioned he played with Ben at a Terry Rob acoustic jam and quickly went on to work with the Youth of Blues as a full-time player. He’s a tenacious player who quickly learned over 40 blues songs in just a week. His love of funk brings a playful element to the bands repertoire.
Alex Ankeny - Drums
Alex Ankeny plays drums and has been playing with the band since the beginning of Summer 2006. He is a junior at Grant High School where he sings for the choir. He is modest but talented and has a natural rhythm. He provides a solid and strong groove.
